Open Adoption FAQs
What is Open Adoption? An open adoption is where the birthparents select the adoptive family for their child. The degree of openess can vary significantly. In a totally open adoption, the birthparents and adoptive parents meet and exchange identifying information, such as email addresses, home address, and telephone numbers. Adoptive parents will regularly share information and pictures of the child with the birthparents. Some families also have visits after the baby has been born. In a semi-open adoption, the birth families and adoptive families may exchange information through the adoption agency or another third party.
What are the advantages of open adoption? The adoptive child benefits the most from an open adoption. They have ongoing access to medical information. They also have the benefit of knowing who his/her birthparents and why they chose adoption.
Open adoption can also bring closure to birthparents. Ongoing contacts reaffirms that they made the best decision for their child.
As an adoptive mother, I am thankful that I was able to meet my children's birthparents. This has given me the knowledge to tell my children how wonderful and special their birthparents are and how much we love them.
Why should we network? Many adoptive parents meet their own birthparents through networking. While I am not aware of exact statistics, I have been told by adoption professionals that it is around 50%. We have two children through adoption and one was through the agency and the other through networking.
Why should we link with your site? The key to the long term success of a site is the ability to find it. Luv4adoption.com works hard to improve the search engine rankings. However, since rankings can change without notice, we do not rely on the search engine rankings. We also use paid advertisements for the major search engines (Google, Yahoo, and MSN) as well as other search engines. Many of our competitors do not do this. We target keywords for open adoption and are open to suggestions by birth and adoptive families.
The second reason to list with our site is our cost. We charge a one time fee until you adopt. Many other sites charge am monthly or annual fee. We do not feel that families that end up waiting a long time should have to incur additional expenses. There also are no hidden costs. We do have featured families that are rotated on a random basis. We do not charge additional for this as many other sites do. Again, we want to keep the cost as economical for adoptive families as possible.
Can or should we link to other adoption websites too? Each adoptive family needs to set their own budget. With that said, the more sites that you are listed on, the more exposure you have, which increases your possibility of matching with a birthparent. Therefore, if your budget allows, we encourage you to list on a number of sites.
Since luv4adoption.com created our site, can we link to other adoption websites too?Yes!
